Driving Licence Services

You can get to the Parivahan Sewa Portal, which has services relating to driver’s licenses, through the Sarathi Parivahan dashboard for your state.

Some of the most important services are applying for a learner’s permit or a driving licence, renewing your licence, getting a copy licence, keeping your licence up to date, making driving test appointments and printing or downloading your licence.

In India, driving licences are categorized into two primary types:

  • Learner’s Licence (LL): A provisional licence that permits you to practice driving under supervision. It’s valid for six months and can be extended for an additional six months if necessary.
  • Permanent Driving Licence (DL): This is the full licence that allows you to drive independently. To apply for a permanent DL, you must first hold a learner’s licence and successfully pass a driving test.

Eligibility Criteria

Before beginning your application, make sure you meet these requirements:

  • Age Requirement: For a motorcycle without gears, you must be at least 16 years old. For a geared motorcycle or car, the minimum age is 18. Commercial licences require applicants to be at least 20 years old.
  • Medical Fitness: Applicants must meet the physical and mental fitness standards set by the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Rules: You should have a basic understanding of traffic laws and regulations.

Required Documents

  • Proof of Identity: Aadhaar card, Passport, Voter ID, etc.
  • Proof of Address: Aadhaar card, Passport, Voter ID, or a Utility Bill (no older than three months).
  • Proof of Age: Birth certificate, 10th-grade mark sheet, Passport, etc.
  • Passport-sized Photographs: Recent photos meeting the required specifications.
  • Learner’s Licence (for Permanent DL): A valid learner’s licence is necessary when applying for a permanent DL.
  • Application Fees: Fees depend on the type of licence and your state. You can check the fee details on the Sarathi Parivahan website.

Driving Licence Application

There are two kinds of driver’s licenses: one for learning how to drive and one for life. You must first apply for a learner’s licence if you don’t already have one.

After 30 days of receiving the learner’s licence, you can apply for a permanent driving licence. To apply for a driving licence, follow the steps below:
